NORTH CAROLINA VOTING EQUIPMENT VULNERABLE TO BEING HACKED
NC voting systems have outdated software making them vulnerable to attack
North Carolina uses the following voting systems statewide: ES&S 5.2.4.0, Clear Ballot ClearVote 1.4, and Hart Intercivic Verity 2.2. Out of these, ES&S 5.2.4.0 and Hart Intercivic Verity 2.2 use end of life software (Windows 7, Microsoft Server 2008 R2) leaving them in danger of being hacked as they are no longer supported by Microsoft, and they have not received security patches since January 14, 2020.

NC VOTING MACHINES COULD BE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET
Voting equipment connected to the Internet would lose its EAC-certification status and is at risk of getting hacked
ES&S product DS200 was offered to NC through a one-sheet pdf that included a “Comprehensive” feature identified as an “optional wireless modem results transfer with encryption”. Despite changing voting systems, from ES&S 5.2.2.0 to ES&S 5.2.4.0, the DS200 version remains the same. All voting systems used in NC have to be EAC certificated, however, DS200 could be violating this section as EAC forbids connecting to the Internet for any voting machine.

Political operative accused of ballot fraud is facing new federal charges
Leslie McCrae Dowless Jr. was accused of absentee ballot fraud in a 2018 congressional election. The case was centered around Dowless and ultimately led to the State Board of Elections' order to order a new election. Workers testified that they were told to collect incomplete or blank ballots and to forge signatures on them. The federal charges accuse Dowless of fraudulently receiving Social Security benefits while getting paid for political work in 2018.
