UNCLEAR ES&S VOTING SYSTEM VERSION USED IN UTAH DUE TO SECRECY
Current ES&S voting equipment version lacks transparency
Utah signed a contract with ES&S until 2027, as the state’s election management vendor, to provide election hardware, software, support, services and training. Counties can acquire ES&S equipment under that contract. All counties except 2 are using ExpressVote, DS200, DS450 and DS850, but it¡s unclear which EAC certified versions are currently being used because it’s not open to the public. According to open sources, they could be using EVS 6.0.0.0, EVS 6.0.2.0 or EVS 6.0.4.0. In any case, all versions are still using end of life software (Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008) and are no longer supported by Microsoft.

UTAH ALLOW USERS TO VOTE THROUGH INTERNET
Voting systems relying on the internet to vote are at risk of being hacked
Utah County is piloting the use of the smartphone app Voatz for military, overseas and disabled voters in Utah County residents to request to receive and cast their ballot. Voatz mobile app is an internet voting system.
Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology found that the Voatz app is riddled with security issues and privacy problems that could provide the opportunity for hackers to alter, stop or expose an individual user’s vote.
