The advent of technology and integrating it with voting systems and the changing conveniences of electronic paperless systems, creates many security and hacking risks as well as potentially unverifiable authentication of our individual votes. Cybersecurity experts caution that if it is running software, it can be hacked. The US Election Assistance Commission, or the EAC, overseas the standards for using electronic readers and voting equipment to assure safety standards. More and more, they are pushing for paper ballots and Risk Limiting Audits. However, many of the suppliers of these systems are old and/or do not adequately prevent hacking. Without a paper ballot, it often cannot even verify the votes. This is a problem. In fact, white hat hackers find our voting systems are extremely easy to hack. It is well documented that State sponsored hackers have attacked our electoral processes. We must have transparent oversight of electronic voting systems at the state and national level in order to have fair elections. We don't want electronic voting systems anytime soon.
